RevOps/GTM Salary Guide

RevOps/GTM Salary Guide

Price The Skillset,
Not The Department

What RevOps and GTM Engineering talent actually costs in 2026—and the sequence to hire it in. Price fractional against full-time before the req goes live.

Scope B2B, $10M–$50M ARR Figures Base salary, US national Current as of May 2026

Hire the owner, then the builder

Bottom Line Up Front

Build the engine, then crew the mission. Order matters. RevOps leadership first, then the supporting cast that makes the systems and data actionable. Once that's in place, GTM Engineers help accelerate. Hire out of order and you'll pay a builder to do an owner's job—or worse—someone who is capable of maintaining but struggles to deliver as an IC/architect.

RevOps owns the system

GTM Engineering builds the machines that run inside it. Two seats, two mandates—don't collapse them into one req.

36% of GTME postings are rebranded RevOps

The title is fashionable. Read the responsibilities, not the header, before you benchmark the pay.

Price the skillset, not the department

Budget the work the person will actually do. Price it by the function that owns them and the req sits open.

What to price in beyond the number

Demand is exploding, supply is thin, and the reqs that do get posted sit open. This is the context that makes fractional the honest answer more often than not.

20×
Demand growth
GTM Engineer openings went from 16 (Dec '24) to 402 (May '26). About 1 in 7 GTM-titled openings is now a GTME, up from 5.7% in Q1 '25 to 14.3% in Q2 '26.
309
Supply is thin
US GTM Engineers who list a programming language. More people summited Everest in the 2026 season (~1,008).
26%
90-day churn
Share of GTM Engineers who changed jobs in the last 90 days, versus 3% for marketing—roughly 8× the rate.
30%
Reqs don't fill
Still open three months after posting. Median time-to-fill among reqs that eventually filled is 62 days.
r = +0.07
AI is unpriced
Pay is flat across every level of AI demand. Median base sits near $150–160K whether the JD asks for zero AI skills or five-plus. That's arbitrage.
−$17K
The Clay signal
Roles mentioning Clay pay about $17K less ($148K vs. $165K). If Clay is a hard requirement, you're hiring an operator, not a builder.
37.8%
The AI stack shifted
Anthropic mentions in GTME job descriptions jumped from 3% to 37.8% between Q1 '25 and Q2 '26, overtaking OpenAI.
+51%
Scope creep is real
Median JD length grew from 571 to 862 words in six quarters. Salaries stayed flat.
Scarcity Ratios
Annual openings per available candidate. All of marketing sits at 0.02 for comparison.
  • GTME + TypeScript5.85
  • GTME + Python3.54
  • GTME + Salesforce2.85
  • GTME + HubSpot2.24

Platform shift Salesforce overtook Clay in JD mentions—68% vs. 43% by Q2 '26. The role is landing at more established companies where internal ops is the pain.

What to hire, when, at $10–50M ARR

Six seats across three waves, plus two you should defer. Wave 1 lands the owner and their sidekick(s)—everything after depends on sequencing and needs.

The Hiring Sequence
Base ranges are sourced. Toggle to see what the seat actually costs.
Year-one loaded cost = base + ~20% variable + ~25% employer burden + ~22% contingency search fee. The variable uplift is sourced; burden and search are stated assumptions—swap in your own multipliers before you take this to a CFO. None of it produces anything for the first 62 days, the median time-to-fill.

Our read Don't hire the pure SWE archetype in this band. You'll pay $220K+ for someone who gets bored maintaining HubSpot workflows, then leaves in three quarters. Hire the operator, hand them AI tooling, and buy builder capability fractionally until volume justifies the seat.

Three ways to avoid the full-time gamble

A $170K req that sits open 62 days and churns in three quarters is not the cheaper option. Run the math before you post it.

Hire for the bottleneck

Even a perfect generalist won't fix everything in 100 days. Staff the area that moves the business now, make the strategic hire later.

Hire an agency

Many founder-level GTM Engineers run their own shops. Less risk, faster start.

Hire fractional

The best ones deliver immediate improvements while clarifying what role you actually need long-term.

Separating builders from template operators

Four prompts for a GTME interview loop. Look for candidates energized by ambiguity—the good ones interrogate a half-built system, the rest show you a playbook.

  • “Here's a Clay table we built. What would you change and why?”
  • “Walk me through building an outbound sequence from scratch. What data do you need and where do you get it?”
  • “Our CRM has three sources of truth for company size. How would you fix that?”
  • “Show me something you built that broke, and how you debugged it.”

Every function, every level

US base salary, 2026. Five GTM operations functions side by side—so you can see what the same rung costs depending on which door you hire through.

Level RevOps Marketing Ops GTM Engineering Sales Ops CRM Admin

Lead / Director $160–210K$150–215K $201K staff $165–215K Tops out
VP $200–260K
Read the matrix this way Starting pay barely differs. At entry the five functions sit within $20K of each other, and at director they're within $15K. The divergence is in ceiling, not starting pay—CRM Administration tops out around $125K while RevOps runs to $260K. That $135K gap is the real cost of the door you hire through, and it compounds every year that person stays.

Revenue Operations

The deepest ladder of the five—five real rungs from analyst to VP. Median base across the whole function is $140K, average $147K, from 337 postings with disclosed comp. Up ~5% year over year and 15–20% since 2024.

Marketing Operations

Starts lowest of the five and tops out at director—a VP Marketing Ops seat isn't a real rung, it folds into the VP Marketing. The jump from Manager to Senior Manager is the steepest single step on this page: roughly $27K of median for one rung.

GTM Engineering

The only function here with no junior rung at all. Published data gives medians by level but no ranges—the spread lives in the archetype, not the title, which is why the distribution table sits below this one.

RevOps (operator)36%

Runs and wires the stack—HubSpot/Salesforce, process, integrations.

Pure SWE (builder)33% incl. embedded

Writes production code that grows revenue, builds internal AI agents from scratch.

Outbound / growth22%

Clay, Apollo, sequencing, signal-based plays. Largely non-technical.

Data (analyst)8%

Warehouse and transform—dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery, attribution.

Embedded SWE (generalist)

All of the above in one person. Realistically a founder's skillset.

Why embedded SWE looks cheap 29% of GTME roles do software-engineering work, but only 19% of those report to engineering or product. The rest sit under RevOps, GTM leadership, sales, or marketing—teams that have never had an engineer before. Embedded SWE pay looks like ops pay ($156K) because it's priced by the function, not the work. That's what leaves the req open.

Sales Operations

The function with the worst title inflation of the five. "Sales Operations Manager" means an analyst at one company and a near-VP at another, so scope and system ownership matter more than the title when you set a budget.

The one function going backwards Salesforce Ben reports salaries stagnating and in some cases declining, particularly at intermediate and senior levels, even as role expectations expand. Read that as a signal about where the work is going, not just what it pays—pure administration is the layer AI absorbs first. Hire the analyst who can build; don't hire the admin who only maintains.

Geography barely moves the number

The SF premium is just 14% over remote—shallow for a technical role, and a reason not to over-index on where you hire.

What Sits On Top Of Base
Every figure on this page is base salary. Budget the rest separately.
  • Funded startups: total comp adds 20–40% over base.
  • Marketing Ops: 10–25% at manager level, 30–60% at director and VP.
  • Technical RevOps—SQL, Python, API fluency—earns 15–20% more than peers without those skills.
  • AI-fluent RevOps directors command roughly a $60K premium over generalists.
  • Certifications move CRM admin pay 6–18% per band.
Denver Sits at or near the other US line—roughly $145K median, with remote comp only 3–4% above it.

What each seat is actually for—and how to tell a builder from a résumé

Every row: the problem the seat exists to solve, the tells that separate a strong operator from a weak one, and the one question that surfaces the difference fastest.

Role The Challenge It Solves ✓ Strong  /  ✕ Weak Ask Them
Head / Director of RevOpsWave 1 · seat 1 Nobody owns the plumbing behind the number. Forecast is an opinion, handoffs leak, and no single function can fix it alone.
  • Asks what your forecast accuracy actually was before proposing anything. Advises cross-functional leaders instead of taking orders.
  • Opens with a tool-consolidation plan. Defines success as a tidier stack.
“Our forecast missed by 20% two quarters running. Walk me through your first 30 days—and what you'd refuse to touch.”
Sr. RevOps ManagerWave 1 · seat 2 The system exists; nobody uses it right. Adoption stalls and the Director gets pulled back into IC work.
  • Talks about reps' daily workflow. Co-creates process with frontline managers and runs office hours.
  • Defines success as “clean data.” Treats adoption as a training problem rather than a system-design one.
“Reps log deals a week late. Do you change the process, the enablement, or the CRM—and how would you know it worked?”
RevOps ManagerWave 1 alternate The request queue grows faster than it clears and everything is priority one.
  • Brings a prioritization model (RICE/ICE), ties work to company OKRs, and says no with a reason.
  • Promises to clear the backlog. Can't name what they'd deprioritize.
“You inherit 60 open requests and no help. What ships this month, what waits, and who do you disappoint?”
Marketing Ops ManagerWave 1 alternate Campaigns can't prove they worked. Attribution is a debate and deliverability is a rumor.
  • Names a metric they retired for being misleading. Investigates a deliverability drop systematically, not by guessing.
  • Leads with which attribution model is “correct.” No specific example of a data-driven call.
“Marketing reports 400 MQLs, sales says none are real. How do you settle it in two weeks?”
GTM Engineer (operator)Wave 2 · seat 3 Manual work between systems. Signals exist and nothing acts on them.
  • Shows workflows they built themselves, with output data. Asks whether a play actually helped close something.
  • Shows a template someone else built. Can't connect the build to revenue.
“Here's a Clay table we built. What would you change—and how would you do it with fewer credits?”
RevOps Analyst / CRM AdminWave 2 · seat 4 Reporting nobody trusts, and three sources of truth for the same field.
  • Prevention over cleanup—validation at stage change, dedupe rules, monthly hygiene audits. Asks who consumes the report before building it.
  • Quotes dashboard counts as achievements. Treats hygiene as a user-discipline problem.
“Our CRM has three sources of truth for company size. Fix it—and tell me how it stays fixed.”
GTM Engineer (embedded SWE)Wave 3 · seat 5 The workflow tool has hit its ceiling. You need real code and nobody in GTM can write it.
  • Talks failure modes, monitoring, and who owns it at 2am. Has personally deployed an agent, not just read about one.
  • Ships fast, silent on maintenance. AI-curious in theory rather than in the tools daily.
“Show me something you built that broke. How did you find it, and what did you change so it couldn't happen again?”
Sales Ops / Deal Desk LeadWave 3 · seat 6 Quotes take days, approvals are informal, and comp disputes eat the CRO's calendar.
  • Cites ASP, discount rate, cycle time, approval touches. Has removed friction—raised a threshold, cut cycle time, and measured it.
  • Solves problems by adding approval steps. Builds edge-case logic before the standard 80%.
“A rep needs 35% off approved by Friday. Design the path from request to signature—then tell me what stops it being urgent next time.”
GTM Engineer (pure SWE)Deferred · buy fractionally Product-grade revenue tooling and internal agents. Real repos, not workflows.
  • Asks what happens to their work after they leave. Documents and hands off by default.
  • Energized by greenfield, silent on ownership. Bored by maintenance—and eventually says so.
“What have you built that's still running somewhere you no longer work? Who maintains it now?”
VP RevOpsDeferred past $50M Owning the number next to the CRO—and defending it to a board.
  • Changes a forecast in public when the data changes. Runs leader scorecards, not dashboards.
  • Presents dashboards instead of a call. Can't separate their number from the CRO's optimism.
“You disagree with the CRO's forecast by 15% the week before the board meets. What do you do?”
The pattern underneath all of it Hiring teams are not impressed by titles—they're impressed by shipped work and measured outcomes. The single strongest filter across every seat: hand over a real, half-built system and watch what happens. Strong operators interrogate it. Weak ones show you a playbook. Look for the ones energized by ambiguity.

Caveat on all salary data Pay-transparency laws in CA, CO, NY, and WA compel posted ranges, which over-represents those employers in any salary corpus. Per-role pay is not predictable from skills or archetype—every figure here is a median for a named subgroup, descriptive rather than predictive.

Not sure which seat you actually need?

That's the question a diagnostic answers in weeks, not the three quarters it takes a bad hire to prove it. We'll map your bottleneck, then tell you whether it's a hire, a system fix, or fractional leadership.
